Dawn graduated from Durham University with a 2:1 BA in Russian and music.

She has taught instrumental music for over 30 years in schools and private lessons, firstly in Durham, then Cambridge for 10 years, and now since 1991 in North Norfolk.

Beginning with descant recorder from a young age, she has studied with various teachers over the years and is now a proficient player and inspiring teacher of piano, flute, recorders and clarinet. Whilst at school she achieved Grade 8 in clarinet, and Grade 8 in piano followed soon after. Her other instruments have been learnt to a similar level but without formal qualifications.

For 15 years Dawn was also sheet music manager at Wood Wind and Reed music shop in Cambridge; this gave her a very broad knowledge of music publications and she now has an extensive library of music to choose from to provide pupils of all ages with suitable and varied selections of music.

Although classically trained, much of her performance is currently in folk music – playing for a ceilidh band for several years, and she also enjoys playing for Balkan dancing.

In addition to her music teaching Dawn also teaches Balkan dance, both locally and internationally via Zoom; you can find out about her work as a music editor and proofreader at www.findamusiceditor.com ;and in recent years she has set up a not-for-profit concert series Fakenham Classic Music with the aim of bringing professional music performances to this area at affordable prices for all.
